The Spirit and the Church (11/1/01)
The Church is the expression of the Holy Spirit on earth. The spirit is present in the God's grace for us, both personally and through sacraments. It is a purposeful presence in the Church through truth, faith and love. The spirit (God acting) seeks to transform us, not to correct us.

Jesus has a dual nature- both a human nature and a divine nature. During his life, his dual nature is developed both in the human aspect and the divine. Jesus, in his person, accomplishes a reconciliation between God and humanity.

In the early ministry of Christ we see the duality of his humanity and divinity. Father Mike discusses how Jesus was perceived by his contemporaries and compares the Baptism in the different Gospels.

What is redemption? God entered into humanity to show us that death does not separate us from God. Redemption is a continuing dynamic in our life. The death of Jesus Christ redeems us with God.

Father Mike talks about the risks of literal interpretation of the Bible. The Living God, alone is life and sustains life. Only human beings can have an eternal relationship with God. The great sin is putting ourselves above God and the result is both spiritual and material death. Also, the three temptations of Christ are discussed by Father Mike.
